Follow The Directions

01

Step

Combine Ingredients: In your bread machine pan, add the water, molasses, oil, sugar, salt, 1 cup of oats, bread flour, and yeast in the order recommended by your bread machine manufacturer. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Dough Cycle: Select the 'Dough' cycle on your bread machine and press start. Allow the cycle to run its course. (Approximately 1.5 - 2 hours)

03

Step

Shape the Loaf: Once the dough cycle is complete, gently remove the dough from the bread machine. On a lightly floured surface, shape the dough into a round loaf, tucking the ends underneath to create a smooth top. (10 minutes)

04

Step

First Rise: Transfer the shaped loaf to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover loosely with lightly oiled plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm place until puffy, about 30 minutes. (30 minutes)

05

Step

Preheat Oven: While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

06

Step

Prepare for Baking: Uncover the dough and lightly sprinkle the top with additional quick-cooking oats. (2 minutes)

07

Step

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom, about 40 minutes. (40 minutes)

08

Step

Cool: Remove the baked bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving. (30 minutes)

For a richer flavor, substitute melted butter for the vegetable oil.
If you don't have a bread machine, you can mix and knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size before shaping and baking.
Store the cooled bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

I added a handful of raisins to the dough for extra sweetness and texture. It was a hit!
