Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Prepare the Bacon (5 minutes): Place bacon in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Cook until crisp and evenly browned. Remove bacon, reserving 2 tablespoons of drippings. Crumble the bacon and set aside.

02

Step
10 mins

Make the Dumpling Dough (10 minutes): In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking powder. Gently stir in parsley and pepper. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and milk until combined. Add the egg mixture and reserved bacon drippings to the dry ingredients. Stir with a fork until just combined. If the dough seems too dry, add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it forms a soft, slightly sticky dough. Gently fold in the crumbled bacon.

03

Step
12 mins

Cook the Dumplings (12 minutes): In a 2-quart saucepan, bring vegetable broth to a simmer over medium heat. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the simmering broth. Cover and cook for about 12 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through and fluffy. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

For a richer flavor, use chicken broth instead of vegetable broth.
Add a pinch of nutmeg to the dumpling dough for a warm, aromatic note.
Serve these dumplings as a side dish or as a hearty main course. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives.
The bacon drippings add a distinctive flavor. If you don't have bacon drippings, you can use melted butter or olive oil as a substitute.
